Our 50 | Edify signature build is specified to reflect the needs of the modern rider and disc road bikes. While carbon rims used to be reserved for summer riding due to the uninspiring braking and wear in wet weather, disc brakes have unlocked their use all year round. However, this introduces new demands. To answer these additional requirements for the stiffness, strength, and grip required for winter roads, our grip and comfort enhancing, asymmetric-U rims help balance spoke tensions despite the offset required at the hub for the brake rotor.

Featuring our 50mm deep, 25 to 27mm wide rims, disc optimised Sapim D-Light spokes, and PV Bitex hubs; this wheelset will keep you rolling smoothly come rain or shine.

    Asymmetric | Wide | Versatile

    We have selected our Performance line of road disc brake rims to provide the efficiency, comfort and reassurance the modern rider seeks when heading out on our next adventure. The asymmetric-U profile surrenders a handful of watts to aero drag in order to achieve a stiffer, stronger, more balanced tension wheelset. As a result there is also no need to turn back even when the road runs out. 

    Ranging from 25mm to 50mm in depth, this rim line offers the perfect upgrade, whether you are looking to shed weight for the mountains, scorch your local fire roads, or step into the world of aerodynamic efficiencies.

    Our 50d | A28 rims sit at the aero orientated end of the range. However, at just 455g a rim they are no heavy weight and will feel equally competent tumbling over the UKs greatest climbs or hitting new PBs around your local circuit. This makes them the ideal choice for anyone seeking a robust, adaptable wheelset able to provide a significant step up in speed.

    Taiwanese Efficiency | Astute Features

    Our 50 | Edify wheelset benefits from Taiwanese efficiency at their core. Our CLD hubs are produced by Bitex; a quality orientated OEM manufacturer who excels in incorporating smart, carefully considered features into a comprehensive range of otherwise simple and high performance hubs. 

    Fitted with TPI bearings and grease specifically mixed for weatherproofing against the UK weather, these hubs are buttery smooth and will stay that way for many a kilometre to come. Meanwhile, the 6 pawls, working in sets of 3 provide super fast 48pt engagement. The freehub features individually sprung pawls with a circle spring as a backup, and 3 steel splines guard against cassette bite. Finally, they are the most straightforward of our hub range to service, making them ideally suited to home mechanic upkeep.

    25 to 27mm Wide | Superior Stiffness

    At 25mm expanding to 27mm at the widest point these rims provide cloud like comfort by spreading tyres wide and increasing internal volume, especially if matched with modern, rolling-resistance cheating 28-30mm options. 

    Thanks to the stiffness and strength boosting asymmetric profile, these rims are also perfectly suited to all year round riding and taking on even the worst of the UK back roads.

    Disc Brake Specific

    Lower Temperature Resins | Improved Compliance

    Our Performance class disc rims have a precision Toray T700 carbon layup and are impregnated with a lower temperature resistance resin relative to our rim brake range. These resins have the added benefit of improving vertical compliance. The combination of utilising well practiced manufacturing techniques and lower cost resins has allowed us make our hand build carbon wheels more accessible without sacrificing quality.

    We have selected Sapim D-Light spokes for our 50 | Edify wheelset thanks to their specific design for enduring the rigours of a low spoke count disc brake wheelset. Meanwhile they offer loads lateral stiffness while retaining plenty of lovely, comfortable, vertical compliance. For increased long term longevity, we lovingly lace and skilfully build each of these wheels with Sapim HM Nipple Washers to improve spoke head angle and spread spoke tension load onto a wider area of the spoke bed of the rim.

    See beyond the marketing hype – as a rule of thumb you can differentiate a marketing brand from a wheel builder by their ability to offer customisation of their wheels with alternative components (such as different hubs or spokes to suit your needs). Many brands simply pick from a list of available components from a third party overseas manufacturer who factory or ‘hand’ builds the wheels, then stamp the brand name on the side. These are then imported and sold with a hefty brand tax which provides no direct benefit to you the rider.
