Our 700 | Escape signature build is for those seeking the type of versatility necessary for those day long adventures into the wilderness or urban explorations. Featuring a bombproof hubset, disc optimised spokes, and tyre stretching wide rims (25/30mm internal/external respectively), these wheels are perfectly suited to purring along country lanes, then darting off to scorch along your local fire trails.

For those who seek top speeds and faster rolling along both paved and unpaved, our 29″/700c gravel wheels are the ones for you. These wheels are capable of carrying 100kg riders, ideal for tyres from 38mm right up to 50mm, and are even adaptable enough for cross-country mtb use. For heavier riders we can alter the spokes and up the spoke count to accommodate up to 110kg.

    We selected our PV core line of alloy road rims to provide a perfect balance between weight, speed, reliability, and a modern rim profile. Our Gravel / XC wide, rounded V shaped rims boast a reinforced spoke bed for longevity and massive internal volume at 25mm internal width for serious grip and comfort over even the wildest gravel terrain.

    Our GXC | 700 rims are ideal for any kind of gravel riding, be it throwing up hard pack dust, ducking and diving through woodland, or grinding your way up muddy bridleways. Fit some 700×33 tyres for pure speed or some 700×45 for all day comfort and wilderness capability.

    Our 700 | Escape wheelset benefits from dependable quality at their core. The MP2s are provided by Aivee; a French aerospace mechanical engineering and manufacturing firm. While being some of the heavier hubs in our selected range, they still build into a modest 1610g wheelset.

    With the MP2 model, Aivee have delivered bombproof reliability and strength at an unmatched price point. Featuring high flanges, they build into a highly versatile, laterally stiff wheelset and thanks to spinning on a set of nice large HCH Steel bearings, each carefully protected from the elements by high tolerance weather seals, they will also soak knocks and whatever the seasons throw to keep you rolling smoothly for many a gravel adventure to come. 

    Strong & Dependable

    30mm Wide | Reinforced Spoke Bed

    While only 435g per rim, built into a 1610g overall wheelset, this build is capable of standing up to the brutal nature of high speed gravel riding, even if to you that means hammering around your local XC mountain bike loop.

    Thanks to a reinforced spoke bed we are able to build with higher spoke tensions than possible with standard alloy rims, increasing spoke life and lateral stiffness. We then add nipple washers to make concerns over spoke pull through one of the past. Featuring a highly stable, stiff, wide profile, and artisan hand built quality, these wheels will stand up to the tests of time.

    Clincher or Tubeless

    Welded Joint | Extra Volume

    Manufactured with a welded joint (rather than sleeved), our alloy rims provide an effective, airtight seal for easy tubeless setup. The centre of the rim bed channel is nice and deep for aiding getting tyres on and off, stepping up to a tight fitting section and hook ensuring a reliable hold for avoiding tubeless tyre burping or squirm.

    Thanks to that same profile and cross-compatibility, clincher tyres with inner tubes can still be fitted with just a strong pair of thumbs or a pair of standard pocket tyre levers. 

    Laced With Love

    Vertical Compliance | Lateral Stiffness

    We have selected Sapim D-Light spokes for our 700 | Escape wheelset thanks to their optimised design for enduring the rigours of heavy duty disc brake usage. Meanwhile they offer loads lateral stiffness while retaining plenty of lovely, comfortable, vertical compliance. For increased long term longevity, we lovingly lace and skilfully build each of these wheels with Sapim HM Nipple Washers to improve spoke head angle and spread spoke tension load onto a wider area of the spoke bed of the rim.

    This build can readily be stiffened up for riders over 100kg using a mix of higher spoke counts and / or Sapim Race spokes.

    See beyond the marketing hype – as a rule of thumb you can differentiate a marketing brand from a wheel builder by their ability to offer customisation of their wheels with alternative components (such as different hubs or spokes to suit your needs). Many brands simply pick from a list of available components from a third party overseas manufacturer who factory or ‘hand’ builds the wheels, then stamp the brand name on the side. These are then imported and sold with a hefty brand tax which provides no direct benefit to you the rider.
